Biomedical Engineering(BME) combines engineering principles and methodology with physical, chemistry and mathematical Sciences to solve problems in biology, medicine, behaviour and human health.

Why study the programme:

BME graduates are able to work in a variety of different fields. Common areas of focus they can pursue include, cell-based therapeutics, regenerative medicine, gene therapy, engineering organs, imaging technology like, X-ray, CT scans, ultrasound, MRI; neutral engineering, wearable technology, surgical implants, surgical instrumentation, data mining. The 4-year Biomedical Engineering Bachelor of Technology degree program at KTU attracts many and is continuously rated as one of the top programs of its kind in the country.

Entry Requirements

SSSCE Applicants

The applicants must have passes (A-D) in three (3) core subjects including English, Mathematics, Integrated Science plus and three (3) passes in relevant electives subjects including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics with an aggregate not exceeding 24.

WASSCE Applicants

The applicants must have credit passes (A1-C6)) in six (6) core subjects comprising  three(3) core subjects, English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science plus three (3) relevant electives subjects including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics with an aggregate not exceeding 36.

GCE Ordinary and Advanced Levels applicants

Applicants must have credit passes in General Certificate of Education (GCE) at Ordinary Level in five (5) subjects, including English and Mathematics, in addition to Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. PLUS passes in two(2) A’Level Science subjects. A pass in General Paper would be an advantage.

Mature Student

Age: 25 and above

Holder of Certificate in Biomedical Engineering or have credits in three (3) core    subjects (Core English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science) and two (2) Elective subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics/Physics) in SSSCE, WASSCE or Equivalent.

Must have at least two years working experience and must pass a selection interview to be conducted by the University.

HND in Biomedical Engineering Technology with at least second class lower or better may be admitted at level 300 of the programme.

5. Graduates can equally set up their own businesses to provideconsultancy services in acquisition, installation, repairs and maintenance of modern medical equipment
