About the Department
Welcome to the Department of Food and Postharvest Technology, Koforidua Technical University (KTU). Established in 2015, we are a distinct, expanding community of 12 faculty, 3 staff and dozens of associated faculty and professionals from other departments within and outside the University. Together with dedication and hard work, the Department delivers industry-oriented educational and research missions of solving problems by integrating the basic sciences, food technology, postharvest technology, food safety and related fields to advance and improve the food systems in Ghana and beyond for quality assurance, sustainability and job creation.

The Food and Postharvest Technology Department is one of the departments under the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, Koforidua Technical University. The Department was established and admitted its first batch of students during the 2015/16 academic year, admitting a total of seventeen (17) students for the HND Food Technology and HND Postharvest Technology programmes, and graduated the first batch in 2018. The Department has since grown in number to over 450 students.
The department has carefully designed curricula which offer a wide range of knowledge in all aspects of Food Technology, Postharvest Technology, and Food Safety and Toxicology. Its primary purpose is transferring knowledge, skills and technologies through quality teaching, research, practical demonstration and hands-on training. The department is an interdisciplinary subject area comprising science, technology and entrepreneurship, empowering the next generation of professionals for competences in food quality assurance, food security and sustainable job creation in the agrifood sector.
