Overview

Ghana’s growing energy needs, mixed with the world’s order to reduce environmental emissions from fossil fuels, require the use of clean, renewable energy resources that have no environmental emissions. The Master of Technology in Renewable Energy Systems Engineering programme expands the knowledge and skills of graduates from the Bachelor of Technology with specialisation in Bioenergy, Mini-Hydro, Wind and Solar Technologies. The aim of the programme is to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in renewable energy technologies, economics, and policy, with in-depth knowledge of bioenergy, hydroelectric power, wind energy systems and solar energy systems. The programme prepares graduates and working professionals with a broad understanding of energy delivery, consumption, efficiency, auditing, conservation, economics, policy, and regulation. statistics and economics to equip graduates with the necessary skills needed for higher-level managerial and policy-making positions in the conventional and non-conventional energy sectors in the country.


Entry Requirements

  1. First or second-class Honours degree in renewable energy/mechanical/electrical/chemical engineering/physics/chemistry or related engineering programme.
  2. An equivalent national and international qualification or
  3. relevant work experience in combination with a degree below second-class Honours.

Foreign certificates shall be referred to GTEC for evaluation

International students whose first language is not English are required to have one of the following English language qualifications before they can register for the programme. However, applicants from English-speaking countries may have these requirements waived.

  1. IELTS 6.0 (no less than 5.0 in any element)
  2. TOEFL paper-based 550 (no less than 4.0 in TWE)
  3. TOEFL IBT 79 (no less than 17 in any element)

A candidate with a non-researched Master's Degree in Renewable Energy Systems

Engineering or a related programme seeking admission to do the research M. Tech

Renewable Energy Systems Engineering programme must:

  1. Have obtained a CGPA of 2.0 or better in the master's coursework,
  2. Submit an official transcript of academic record.
  3. Submit at least one referee report.
  4. Submit a pre-proposal of 2-3 pages on the intended area of research
