Ghana National Welding Competition: A roadmap to showcase Ghana’s welding capabilities and investment opportunities to the world – Koforidua Technical University

Home / News & Announcements / Ghana National Welding Competition: A roadmap to showcase Ghana’s welding capabilities and investment opportunities to the world

Gyason Technoengineering Limited, in collaboration with Koforidua Technical University (KTU), the Ghanaian Institute of Welding (GIW), AKTIVA I.I.T.T.C. Limited, and the Ghana Welding Bureau (GWB), is set to host Ghana’s inaugural National Welding Competition on May 17, 2025. The event will be held at the Welding Technology Laboratory at KTU.

The competition will kick off with a webinar dubbed “Introduction to Modern Welding Technologies,” followed by the main event. Although registration has closed, the competition has garnered interest from over 200 welders across Ghana. Participants will be evaluated on four key welding processes: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Oxy-Fuel Gas Welding (OFW).

This groundbreaking event, the first of its kind in Ghana and West Africa, will see welders from both academia and industry demonstrate their expertise and technical skills. The competition aims to provide a platform for welders to showcase their abilities, identify local talent, and create a database of skilled welders ready for employment. It also emphasizes the importance of welding education, training, certification, and the need for reskilling and upskilling within the industry.

Winners in each category will have the honor of representing Ghana at the upcoming International Welding Competitions in China and Germany. This participation is crucial for enhancing Ghana’s image on the global stage, showcasing the nation’s welding capabilities, and attracting investment opportunities aimed at job creation.

The International Welding Skills Competition in Weifang, China, is scheduled for September 5-10, 2025, while the International Welding Competition for young welders in Essen, Germany, will take place from September 15-19, 2025. These events are supported by the International Institute of Welding (IIW) and will feature participants from 53 member societies, including countries like Germany, Italy, Spain, the U.K., the U.S.A., Japan, China, Romania, Greece, and South Africa.

Together, these competitions will place Ghana on the global map of welding, highlighting the nation’s commitment to advancing welding technology and skills development.

For more information, stay tuned to our updates and follow the progress of Ghana’s talented welders as they prepare to compete on the international stage.
